Hydrotherapy for eczema and psoriasis
Hydrotherapy is an effective way of providing lasting relief from itching and tightness. Personalised treatments adapted to eczema or psoriasis, under medical supervision, will bring new comfort to your skin.
Why follow hydrotherapy for eczema and psoriasis?
Is your skin itchy, tight, and very dry? Does it make you suffer on a daily basis or in bouts? Hydrotherapy is undoubtedly a solution adapted to your condition. Whether you suffer from atopic eczema or psoriasis, this stay in a soothing environment will help your skin restructure its self-defense capacities.
Eczema and psoriasis: the benefits of Avène hydrotherapy
Avène hydrotherapy consists of a series of thermal treatments and specific moisturising treatments that target the symptoms of eczema and psoriasis. The aim is to provide immediate and long-lasting relief to inflamed and irritated areas as well as to itchy skin on the body, face and/or scalp. Relief is felt during your stay; but above all, it lasts for months after the treatment is completed. The treatments provide basic care that repairs the skin and, above all, restores its ability to defend itself and retain sufficient moisture. This is one of the best ways to delay or even prevent inflammatory outbreaks.
“People used to look at her as if she was abnormal. Now, when she meets people she doesn't know, she doesn't worry about what they might think of her skin”.
Children can also benefit from Avène's hydrotherapy
From the age of 3 months, children can also benefit from hydrotherapy, accompanied by a relative, parent or grandparent in particular. Eczema affects a large number of children, while psoriasis is less frequent in this demographic. Whatever the condition, it affects them and makes them suffer as much as adults. So, no hesitation! Especially as Avène hydrotherapy is suitable for all ages. A personalised program of hydrotherapy treatments and skin health education workshops will be prescribed by the spa physician, and they will learn how to better manage their condition on a daily basis. Not to mention the possibility of coming into contact with other children – and parents – who are going through the same thing.
How to prepare for a stay at a hydrotherapy spa?
To ensure that your stay or your child's stay goes as smoothly as possible, a few steps are essential. First of all, in the case of eczema and psoriasis, the spa treatment must be prescribed by your GP, paediatrician or dermatologist, if you wish to obtain reimbursement. You will receive a request for reimbursement to be sent to your health insurance fund. From there, you can contact the spa to make an appointment with a spa physician when you arrive at the spa. It is this practitioner who, according to your medical file and the examination of your health, will establish the list of the most suitable treatments.
Eczema and psoriasis: water that soothes irritated skin
The water from the Avène thermal spring has anti-inflammatory, anti-irritant and soothing properties on atopic and psoriasis-prone skin. The treatments provided during the spa stay act gently to relieve the skin. Thanks to the hydrotherapy treatments adapted to each particular case, the skin benefits from the rebalancing it so badly needs.

Eczema and psoriasis: special treatments for infants
Infants can follow a hydrotherapy treatment, just like adults. But in reality, the treatments are adapted according to their age, with the accompaniment of one of their parents. In particular, babies can benefit from a hydrotherapy treatment from the age of 3 months. In this case, baths with emollient, anti-inflammatory and sedative effects are given twice a day. So that their skin finally leaves them in peace!
Children's hydrotherapy: How are the treatments performed?
And how do they work in practice? That's why we're here.
No. Spa treatments are intended to have a prolonged beneficial effect during the months following your session. Quality of life was significantly improved six months after the treatment for chronic skin conditions.
For the same condition, eczema or psoriasis for example, a patient can only benefit from one hydrotherapy treatment in the same calendar year, from January to December.
Yes, they can. Children from the age of 3 months who suffer from one of the illnesses on the list drawn up by the Health Insurance system can enjoy hydrotherapy, accompanied by one of their parents. This is the case for children suffering from eczema or psoriasis.
Hydrotherapy lasts 18 consecutive days. An interrupted treatment will not be reimbursed by health insurance, except in cases of force majeure or for medical reasons.
